Will Your Indoors Cat Forget That He Loves To Climb?

Anyone who keeps cats will find out sooner or later that cats just love to climb. But why do cats love to climb and more importantly what should you do if you have an indoors cat who climbs?

It is of course hard to say why cats climb unless you get into the mind of a cat, but it is most likely that it is a cat instinct. It’s certainly a wonderful technique for cats to avoid predators such as dogs, and I have often seen cats sitting on the branch of a tree smirking at a barking dog below.

It is a much safer place to sleep than on the ground.

And of course the cat is a predator as well as prey, and cats will happily go straight up a tree if they can see something tasty in the branches like a bird. And they are particularly good at this at night when they are best able to catch many small nocturnal furry animals which live in our trees.

So you can see some powerful reasons why animal experts seriously recommend that pet cats be kept indoors 24 hours a day, or at least all night.

So if you’re doing the right thing, if you’re keeping your cat indoors is it realistic for you to expect that he will forget all about his love of climbing? No it isn’t realistic. If he isn’t able to climb a tree he will find something else to climb, commonly your couch or your curtains. Many cat owners have come home to find their favourite curtains in a heap along with the curtain rail on the floor at the base of the window, because the cat has tried to climb the curtains.

So you have a little dilemma to solve if you have an indoors cat. If you can’t stop him from climbing what should you do about it? Fortunately there is an easy answer. cat furniture is available which gives your cat the perfect place to play and to climb to his heart’s content, where he can investigate nooks and crannies and interesting places, where he can sleep in the branches, and he can do as much damage as he likes and you won’t care.

It’s called a cat tree.

Sometimes you’ll see it referred to as a cat tower or gym, but basically it’s a piece of furniture designed specifically for him to climb and play on, where damage is immaterial.cat furniture such as this is called a cat tree, though sometimes they can be also called a cat tower or gym.

It’s cat climbing furniture any cat owner shouldn’t be without.

So if you’re the proud owner of an indoors cat then forget about your cat learning to live without climbing. Just cater to his instinct to climb by buying him a fine cat tree and he can have all the fun he wants and you can relax knowing that he won’t be ripping up your curtains.
